Privacy Policy

When you make an account: your name, email, and password. If you add a phone number, that too.

About your business: whatever you put on your page — name, address, hours, photos, description, products, events. This is public by design. That’s the point of a directory.

When you pay: payments run through Stripe. They handle your card details and we never see or store your card number. We keep a record that a payment happened and what it was for.

When you use the site: pages you visited, roughly when, what browser you used, and your IP address. We use this to keep the site working and to see what’s broken.

When something crashes: we use Sentry to collect error reports, which can include what you were doing when it happened.

Anyone can add a spot to the harvest map without an account, and we designed it to collect as little as possible.

Locations are deliberately imprecise. The database physically cannot store a house-level coordinate — spots are recorded to roughly a block. We chose that so the map could never point strangers at a specific door.

We don’t collect a name, an email, or an account for a spot. If a spot is on your property and you’d rather it wasn’t listed, there’s a link on every one, and it comes down immediately. No account, no argument.

That map is published openly under the Open Database Licence, so anyone can download and use it. The download includes only what’s already visible on the map — never the private record of what’s been taken down or reported.

If you subscribe to The Good News, your email address lives with Buttondown, who send it. They’ll ask you to confirm before you’re really on the list, and every email has an unsubscribe link that actually works.

MyLane is powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC. When you use MyLane, we send Anthropic only what it needs to answer that request: your message, the project files it’s working on, and our instructions. We never send your date of birth, your email or your location. Anthropic doesn’t use this data to train its models, and deletes it from its systems within 30 days. We never use Anthropic’s feedback feature.

That’s it. We don’t sell your data, we don’t share it with advertisers, and we don’t run ads.

We’ll hand over information if the law genuinely requires it, and we’ll tell you unless we’re not allowed to.

Your page, your listing, your reviews, and your events are meant to be found. Search engines and AI assistants will index them. That’s what you’re paying for.

Some fields are yours to control. You choose what’s public on your page, and whether your location shows exactly or approximately.

See what we hold on you. Fix it if it’s wrong. Export it. Delete your account, which removes your content from the site.

Your account information for as long as you have an account, and a while after in case you come back. Payment records for seven years, because tax law says so. Error logs for a few months.

MyLane conversations: 12 months, unless you save or delete them sooner. For a young person: 90 days, and their guardian can delete them any time.

No one under 13. LocalLane isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect anything from them. If we learn we have, we delete it.

Ages 13 to 17 have an account only under a parent or guardian (see our Terms). For a young person’s account:

• We collect the least we need: a first name or handle, a date of birth entered by their guardian, the guardian’s contact details, and what they make. The date of birth is used only to confirm they’re 13 or older and to know when they turn 18; only the guardian sees it, and it’s never sent to our AI provider. No home address, no phone number, and no location.
• Their guardian can see everything, including their MyLane conversations.
• Nothing about them is public unless their guardian approves it, and then only a first name or handle.
• We never sell their information, never use it for advertising or profiling, and never show them ads. (This also meets Oregon’s rule for anyone under 16.)
• MyLane works differently for them: stricter instructions, filters on what it will talk about, and a guardian who can read every conversation and pause MyLane at any time.
• Their guardian can ask us to export or delete their data at any time.

We use encrypted connections, we don’t store card numbers, and access to the database is restricted. No system is perfectly safe, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. If something goes wrong that affects you, we’ll tell you.

We’ll update this when things change, and we’ll date it so you can see. If a change is significant we’ll tell you rather than quietly editing.
