MyLane and young people

Last updated October 14, 2026

MyLane is an AI. MyLane is an AI helper, not a person. It says so at the start of every conversation, and it can get things wrong.

Who can use it. No one under 13. Young people aged 13 to 17 can use MyLane only under a parent or guardian who has signed our guardian agreement, and only on devices the guardian has approved.

The law we follow. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and US child-safety law, including Oregon’s protections for young people. We don’t show young people ads, sell their data, or build profiles of them for marketing.

How it’s kept safe.

  • Every message to MyLane, and every reply, is checked for anything unsafe before it’s shown.
  • The guardian picks a content rating (E, E10+ or T; it starts at E10+). Some things are never allowed at any setting: sexual content, gore, targeting real people, hate, or anything about self-harm.
  • In this version, MyLane doesn’t look at pictures from young people.
  • Young people’s projects are private until their guardian approves sharing them.

The guardian stays in charge. The guardian can read every conversation their young person has with MyLane, set how much MyLane can be used each day, week and month, set quiet hours, and pause MyLane at any time. The young person is told all of this up front.

What goes to Anthropic. MyLane runs on Claude, made by Anthropic. Anthropic receives only what each request needs, never a young person’s date of birth, email or location. It isn’t used to train AI models and is deleted from Anthropic’s systems within 30 days.

How long we keep conversations. A young person’s MyLane conversations are kept for 90 days, and the guardian can delete them any time. (Adults: 12 months.)

If something goes wrong. Tap Send feedback in MyLane, or email hello@locallane.app. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as the law requires.
